Additional Utah Jazz Info

Originally based in New Orleans, whose storied music history inspired the team’s name, the Jazz played its first game in 1974. Early Jazz teams were noteworthy for the presence of high-scoring guard Pete Maravich, who was a 3-time all-star.  In 1979, the team relocated to Salt Lake City, and retained their name.

In 1984, the team made its first playoff appearance, which marked the beginning of a streak of 20 consecutive post-season berths for the franchise. That same year, guard John Stockton joined the roster followed by forward Karl Malone in 1985. The duo dazzled Utah Jazz Ticket Holders with their masterful use of the pick-and-roll maneuver and led the Jazz to its greatest achievements to date.

In 1992, the Utah Jazz faced off against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference finals, but were ultimately defeated. Utah advanced to the conference finals twice more in the following 4 seasons, and finally broke through to the NBA finals in 1997 and 1998. However, they were up against the virtually unstoppable Chicago Bulls both times and failed to capture a championship victory. Utah Jazz Ticket Holders watched Stockton and Malone lead the Jazz to several more playoff appearances, but the team never advanced past the conference semifinals, and both players left the Jazz in 2003.

In 2011, the Jazz went into a rebuilding phase after several mediocre seasons. Behind the play of forward Gordon Hayward and center Rudy Gobert, the Jazz won a division title in 2017 but were swept in the second round of the playoffs by the Golden State Warriors. Hayward left during the following off-season, but the Jazz acquired promising rookie Donovan Mitchell.

The Utah Jazz play all home games at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Tickets for Utah Jazz home games are available at Golden Tickets.
